Problem
Potty Pirates is an original product: pirate-ship-shaped tablets you drop in the toilet. They fizz, change the water color, and dissolve, turning potty time into a treasure hunt.
What the site had to do
- Capture early-bird email signups ahead of a Kickstarter launch
- Appeal to toddlers with playful, saturated visuals
- Earn parent trust fast with honest, credible copy
What I Built
Brand
- Full brand system: deep pirate navy palette, Bricolage Grotesque display type, hard block shadows, squishy button interactions
- Original character cast (Captain Clog, Perla, Bob) with illustrated renders
- Brand bible documenting voice, visual rules, character backstories, and product truths
Marketing site
- Problem: why potty training stalls
- How it works: drop, fizz, treasure hunt
- Product mechanics and testimonials
- Character crew and founder story
- Email capture CTA
Technical
- Email capture with Formspree, Resend welcome emails, honeypot spam protection, and source tracking
- Vanilla Astro and minimal JavaScript (no React) for maximum performance
What Made It Interesting
The visual language had to do double duty: marketed to skeptical parents, designed for toddlers.
- Chunky, playful, and saturated to appeal to kids
- Copy and layout built to earn trust (non-toxic, clean, no fake proof claims)
- Design system is the brand bible made executable: every color, shadow, and interaction is a token
