According to the Arizona Commerce Authority, there are roughly 706,000 small businesses in Arizona, representing 99.5% of all businesses in the state and employing about 1.2 million people. Arizona also ranks in the top four nationally for fastest-growing small businesses. Those numbers mean real things on the ground in Phoenix: more competitors in nearly every category, more customers searching online for local providers, and a higher bar for standing out.

The state has invested heavily in small-business support through programs like the Arizona State Small Business Credit Initiative and the newly launched Microbusiness Loan Fund, which the Arizona Office of Strategic Initiatives describes as part of a broader effort to expand access to capital and build an ecosystem supporting entrepreneurs and legacy businesses alike. There’s genuine momentum here.
